Xcept tablet contains rivaroxaban 10 mg in it which is an anti-coagulant medication
It acts as anticoagulant by blocking substance called factor Xa (10a) which eventually decreases thrombin enzyme that is involved in clot formation. Hence, rivaroxaban can prevent blood clots.
Rivaroxaban acts as blood thinner and is indicated in prevention & treatment of blood clotting conditions.
Avoid its use if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any ingredient present in Xcept tablet
Inform doctor before using xcept if you are suffering from kidney or liver disease
Inform doctor or pharmacist before using rivaroxaban tablets in pregnant females or lactating mothers
Adult initial dose prescribed is 40mg/day given in divided doses. Do not exceed the prescribed dose
Store it at room temperature on 25 degree C. Avoid storing it in damp or moist areas like bathroom
If taking rivaroxaban tablets for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, take it with your evening meals
Tablets can be crushed if needed. Mix the crushed part with small amount of applesauce. Eat this applesauce and then eat your meal.

Rivaroxaban acts as blood thinner and is indicated in prevention & treatment of blood clotting conditions like pulmonary embolism (blockage in pulmonary artery in lungs), deep vein thrombosis (DVT; blood clot in vein located deep inside the body) and atrial fibrillation (irregular & often rapid heart rate). It may also be used after hip & knee replacement surgery to prevent clot formation. It is also given to patients with high-risk of forming clots who have limited mobility during hospital stay and after discharge.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct light and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
For how long is rivaroxaban use recommended?
If it is given after knee or hip joint surgery, then should be tentatively taken for 2 to 5 weeks. While if recommended for blood clots like in DVT or pulmonary embolism, then taken for at least 3 months.
What side effects happen with rivaroxaban use?
Side effects can be back pain, bloody stools, bowel or bladder dysfunction, coughing blood, or leg weakness etc
How soon will rivaroxaban work?
It starts acting in a few hours after you take the first dose. But if you stop taking it, its effect will wear off in 24 hours for most people
When can rivaroxaban be stopped?
If you are undergoing a surgical intervention, rivaroxaban should be stopped at least 24 hours before it.

Inform doctor of following medications before taking rivaroxaban: NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), other antiplatelets (like clopidogrel), and aspirin (also acts as blood thinner). Do not take blood thinners with rivaroxaban as together they lead to bleeding. Do not take HIV drugs like protease inhibitors with rivaroxaban. Do not take antifungals, tuberculosis medications, St.John’s wort (a plant), or seizure drugs with rivaroxaban. Xcept comes with warnings of bleeding risk, and people with artificial heart valve.
